SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (January 8, 2008) – Entrepreneur Shimmy McHugh and singer Michael Stuart have joined forces to inaugurate the island’s hottest new restaurant, Coladas. Inspired by Puerto Rico’s own piña colada frozen drink, Coladas is the first Puerto Rican eatery to become a signature restaurant for a major local hotel. Conveniently located in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Hotel in Isla Verde, Coladas delivers a blend of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine and an extensive menu of piña coladas and fresh fruit frozen coladas within a fun dining ambiance designed to appeal local residents and tourists alike.

Coladas’ menu features several signature dishes inspired by the artist including the Yucca Croquettes in Criollo Aioli Sauce; Coladas’ popular Chicken Breast Stuffed with Sweet Plantains and the Insatiable Chocolate Temptation dessert. The frozen Coladas menu includes the traditional piña colada and other exciting tropical flavors like tamarind, mango and passion fruit.

For up-and-coming Chef Marcel Cumba, previously chef at Olivos restaurant in Caguas, Coladas is all about authentic Puerto Rican food --no fusions no gimmicks-- featuring the recipes, flavors and seasoning from the local traditional cuisine. “Coladas’ food reminds us of our grandmother’s cooking and good old times. Like my grandmother used to say, when you cook with love, the food always tastes great. So, I put a lot of heart into menu preparation to ensure the food’s authenticity and quality consistency. Most importantly, as a premier Puerto Rican food restaurant, I am keenly aware that Coladas’ menu will not only introduce our rich food traditions to visitors but it must also exceed the expectations of the most discerning palate of our local customers.”  Contrary to most new restaurants, which have to fully train a new team, Coladas’ experienced staff of 18 brings forth more than 15 years hands-on service experience and the commitment to make the Coladas dining experience and unforgettable one.

In addition to the menu’s traditional dishes, new restaurant owners unveiled Coladas’ secret sauce, the first of several Coladas sauces that will be available for sale at the restaurant and at local retail establishments in the future. Coladas’ kitchen will be sizzling Monday through Sunday from 4:00pm until 11:00pm, while the Coladas’ frozen bar will remain open until dawn if need be.
