Sports and Recreation

Puerto Rico offers the active traveler a tremendous array of things to do! Surfing and golf compete with tennis, fishing, kayaking, SCUBA diving, and horseback riding, not to mention windsurfing and parasailing, for your active time. Our year-long, excellent weather makes it happen.

Please contact the hotel’s concierge desk for reservations and scheduling.  Please note that a minimum of passengers is required on some activities.

Horseback Riding

Saddle up a native horse and enjoy an extraordinary journey to the Puerto Rican countryside. The cavalcade will follow country roads and trails, where you will be able to appreciate the spectacular richness of Puerto Rico's exuberant beauty. Relax with the magnificent view of palm trees, the sweet ocean breeze and the refreshing sapphire hued waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The journey will be guided by an expert trainer. Clients will ride gentle but spirited, healthy horses that can accommodate beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. Comfortable riding attire is recommended. Depending on the location chosen, the scenery will be entirely countryside and/or beach. Basic lessons in horseback riding are given to all guests.

Golfing

Puerto Rico's superb golf courses are emerald green, surrounded by soft marine breezes and a radiant tropical sun.  There are various golf facilities of world-class caliber that have stood up to some of the world's most discerning golfers. The sand and water challenges are only surpassed by the fantastic terrain and harmonious views. Dorado and Cerromar, west of San Juan, look over a royal blue Atlantic and quiet countryside. Rio Mar and Bahía Beach view the ocean while resting under the shadow of El Yunque Rain Forest. You pick the challenge and Rico Suntours provides the transfer, green fees, and golf cart.

Dorado Del Mar Golf Club

Located in the northern town of Dorado, this 18-hole golf course is a Chi Chi Rodríguez signature layout. Well-manicured narrow fairways and beautifully contoured greens distinguish this course. Water on 12 holes, palm tree-lined fairways and tropical trade winds challenge even the best players.

Sailing and Snorkeling

Sail, snorkel and picnic in paradise. Board a catamaran for a leisure sail to an uninhabited cay, where you can enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean, collect shells, sunbathe, wade or swim offshore. Complimentary lunch (buffet style with fruits, cold cuts, and salads) and tropical drinks will be served. Non-swimmers as well as swimmers can take advantage of professional instruction in snorkeling to fully view the diverse marine biology of the area. Equipment is included.

Deep Sea Fishing

Puerto Rico holds some of the greatest sport fishing waters in the world, where more than 30 new world records have been set. In fact, the waters around Puerto Rico have been the site of many tournaments, including the noted San Juan International Billfish Tournament, established in 1953 - the longest running international Billfish tournament in the world.  Choose between a half day or full day fishing charter aboard U.S. Coast Guard approved boats navigated by captains who know the waters, the game, and the equipment. Out in the deep waters tuna, marlin, wahoo and dorado, among others, offer an exciting challenge to all anglers. Gear and refreshments are included. Light tackle fishing is also available.

Scuba Diving

Our island’s tropical waters are a diver's paradise. The average ocean temperature is 81ºF and underwater visibility averages from 60 to 75 feet near the beach. Offshore it is easily 100 feet or more!  Down under, the range of vivid colors enhanced and muted by light and shadows serve as backdrop to the striking marine flora and fauna.

Kayaking Eco Tour

Don’t let your day end when the sun goes down! Go on a relaxing sunset kayak tour through the lagoon at Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve. Under the blanket of the night sky and the historical Fajardo lighthouse, you can touch and even swim in the waters that ‘glow in the dark.’  The glow is produced by bioluminescent dinoflagellates, half-plant, half-animal organisms that emit a flash of bluish light when agitated at night.  Fact: the high concentration of these creatures can create enough light to read a book from.  It’s a spectacular sight to behold, only found in five bodies of water in the world – and Puerto Rico is home to three of them!
