Dining

Three signature restaurants serve up a diverse culinary offering: Asian dining at J.H. Yees’; Caribbean-inspired bistro dishes at hip Eighty20 Bistro; and authentic Puerto Rican fare at Coladas.

From the latest fusion to traditional fare, come see what we have to offer you.

Headed by an award-winning culinary team of Puerto Rican professionals, the Holiday Inn San Juan offers more than a good place to eat.

For four consecutive years since 2004, a member of the Holiday Inn San Juan has won a place in Puerto Rico’s National Culinary Team, which nabbed gold each year.

Eighty20 Bistro is the new hip, happening restaurant and bar in Isla Verde, opening September 2008.

Against the backdrop of a minimalist décor in shades of black, white, and orange, this South Beach-inspired bistro features a cuisine that ranges from modern interpretations of classics, such as the Baby Kobe Burgers, to full on fusion dishes such as the Grilled Caribbean Jerk Shrimp with Coconut Risotto and Pineapple ‘Pico de Gallo’.

In the bistro tradition, a great variety of salads, sandwiches, and tapas are among the menu offerings.

Eighty20 Bistro’s kitchen sizzles daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, from 6:30 am to 11:00 pm.

Coladas is the first Puerto Rican eatery to become a signature restaurant for a major local hotel, the Holiday Inn San Juan in Isla Verde. Coladas features authentic Puerto Rican cuisine.

The setting is reminiscent of a 70’s tavern, updated with a stylish décor in a rich palette of jewel-tone colors. The walls in the bar are covered with album jackets from local pop artists and other stars from Puerto Rico’s “Nueva Ola” music – as well as from legendary salsa performers: Fania All Stars, Héctor Lavoe, and La Lupe, among others.

Meanwhile, a shaded veranda allows clients to sit outdoors as the sunset gives way to the Isla Verde nightlife.

For appetizers, the menu offers a variety of traditional fare, including codfish fritters, chicken “chicharrones,” baby conch salad, and fried green plantains with crab stew. Meanwhile, among the selection of entrées, choices include rolled skirt steak with tomato chimichurri; chicken breast stuffed with sweet plantains and wrapped in bacon; snapper filet; and pork chops. A Coladas staple is Mofongo, stuffed with the client’s choice of fried pork, chicken breast, skirt steak, or seafood. Red beans and rice, fried cassava, mashed plantains, and sweet plantains can be found among the side dishes.

To cap dinner on a sweet note, the coconut custard and the creamy guava cheesecake are two dessert favorites.

In honor of its name, the restaurant features an extensive menu of signature fresh fruit frozen coladas: Passionate Parcha (passion fruit), Sexy Razz, Sunset Tamarind, and Tango Mango, to name a few.
